A Brief Introduction..

Welcome to Appeal Media’s new digital marketing information resource. My name is Eric Dobberteen and I am the digital marketing director here at Appeal Media. A little background on me- I have a BS in Marketing from San Diego State. If you have paid any attention to the news lately you probably have heard about the dire state of traditional marketing (print in particular) so finding a job utilizing my degree seemed almost hopeless. I had even thought about becoming a teacher and abandoning my dreams of working in the marketing industry.

My Awakening..

Everything changed a few years ago when I was lucky enough to obtain an internship for a small digital marketing agency. During my 6 months as an intern, I learned how to utilize my marketing knowledge in today’s business environment and was exposed to digital marketing in all its glory allowing me to combine my passion for marketing with my love of computers. My Hope is that I will be able to enlighten others and share the incredible power and possibilities of Internet marketing. At the very least my goal is to educate some business owners who are struggling to drive traffic to their site. I will be sharing simple yet powerful tips that any individual regardless of computer skills can apply, usually in a few minutes, to their own Internet marketing campaign.

Keyword Meta Tag.. I'm Afraid Your Legacy Is Coming To An End

Misinformation is abundant regarding the use of the keyword Meta tag, resulting in businesses spending unnecessary amounts of time (money) coming up with keywords to include in this particular Meta tag.

The Story Behind The Keyword Meta Tag..

Back during the dawn of the Internet (sure feels like forever ago even though it has only been a little over ten years), search engine crawling was much less sophisticated which made deciphering the source code of a site not yet possible. The keyword Meta tag was developed and became the accepted method to inform search engines what a website’s (pages) topic is. This seemed like a simple enough solution to a very new problem for at least a short while.

Spam Is Born!

As soon as the commercial value of the Internet became apparent, certain people became determined to game the search engine rankings which gave rise to the term Spam. This was accomplished simply by placing every keyword or term you could think of as many times as you wanted (also known as Spamming), within the keyword Meta tag. Eventually, due to this Spam, search engines often retrieved totally irrelevant sites for most search terms imaginable. Once this keyword Spamming strategy became the norm for websites, search engines became almost entirely useless as a result of this early form of “black hat” SEO and the keyword Meta tag was quickly reevaluated.. >>Learn More
